Researchers say it’s the first time most of a human organ has been replaced with one engineered in a laboratory from a patient’s own cells. VIDEO Until now, only connective tissue — bone or cartilage — and patches of skin have been grown and implanted this way. The researchers say such “regenerative medicine” could one day lead to a solution for the shortage of donor organs.
