Imaging your car being able to find a parking spot and do a parallel parking for you. Researchers from Siemens have developed that concept called ParkMate and are saying that it will be on the market in 2008.
From NewScientist->”Park Mate uses ultrasound sensors to spot a roadside parking space while a vehicle is travelling at 35 kph or less. Once one has been found, activating the automated parking system guarantees a stress-free park. A dashboard computer then tells the driver to put the vehicle into reverse or drive and then steers the car gently into place. The ultrasound sensors will also sound a warning if there’s a risk of putting a dent in any surrounding cars.”
