A company called Ricoh has created a single laser that can read and write to both HD-DVD and Blu-ray disc formats as well as the standard DVD and CD formats. The device is able to detect what kind of disc has been inserted and automatically changes the laser for that disc. They’ll be showing off the tech later this week at the International Optoelectronics Exhibition ‘06 in Japan.
