# Can You Absorb Mercury with a Sponge?

Can a sponge absorb liquid mercury just as it absorbs water? My prediction was that it wouldn’t but I have no idea why, it just seems wrong to imagine mercury being absorbed by a sponge. It really is a strange phenomenon.
