From Reuters -> American scientists implant bladders grown in a lab from tissue samples in patients with failing organs.
Researchers say it’s the first time most of a human organ has been replaced with one engineered in a laboratory from a patient’s own cells. VIDEO Until now, only connective tissue — bone or cartilage — and patches of skin have been grown and implanted this way. The researchers say such “regenerative medicine” could one day lead to a solution for the shortage of donor organs. Patients getting organs made from their own cells wouldn’t have to take anti-rejection drugs, as they now do after receiving donor organs. VIDEO->
