# World’s Largest Telescope Operational After 30 Years, $1B

The world’s largest telescope, dubbed ALMA, is now operating high in Chile’s Atacama Desert. Scientists hope to find signs of extraterrestrial life. It is made of 66, 40-foot receivers which will eventually expand even more.
