England’s highways made one step closer to the future with this project – a wireless electric vehicle charging road.
Highways England, a government-owned company that manages England’s major roads, is about to test this new wireless charging technology. The trial will go on for 18 months. Electric cars will be fixed with a special equipment capturing and storing energy transmitted by corresponding machines installed underneath the road’s surface.
According to Highways England Chief Highways Engineer Mike Wilson,
The off road trials of wireless power technology will help to create a more sustainable road network for England and open up new opportunities for businesses that transport goods across the country.
