At least 1,000 people were hurt and nearly 3,000 buildings were damaged after a massive meteorite exploded over Russia on Friday morning sending debris plunging into populated areas. According to experts, the blast over Chelyabinsk City released power equivalent to a blast made by 300,000 tons of TNT. The blast generated by the space rock described by NASA as a “tiny asteroid” was recorded at 9:20 a.m. local time. The meteorite is believed to be 10 tons heavy and traveled at over 50,000 kilometers per hour through our atmosphere before exploding about 40 kilometers above the ground.
