US Air Force Develops Real-Life Lightsaber That Lets Soldiers Slice Through Steel Doors in Seconds

The real-life lightsaber doesn’t need The Force to work. All you have to do is push a button.

The US Air force and Energetic Materials & Products’ joined effort creation is quite impressive. It is a handheld torch able to produce a blade-shaped 4,000° flame. The flame blade can cut through half-inch steel bars in seconds.

Stephanie Johnson, a research chemist and program manager at the lab, said:

It works through a combination of chemistry and physics. The extremely high heat renders the steel to a molten state, and the force of the propulsion erodes the material very rapidly.
