The Jamaican Asafa Powell used to be the world’s fastest man on 100m with a time of 9.74. He was recently beaten by Usain Bolt that ran 9.58 on 100m. Asafa’s speed was examined in this documentary and one of the main charachteristics found that make him stand out from other runners is a muscle called the Psoas, hidden under the abdomen that contracts when the hip muscles are used. Its a hard muscle to train since its not easy to isolate. The documentary is in French but its still worth to watch. They have some really fascinating slow motion clips of world’s fastest men.
