Allen Zderad from Forest Lake, a blind man for more than a decade, had his sight restored.
He is the first person in Minnesota, and 15th person in the country, to receive a bionic eye. The new device at Mayo Clinic made it possible for him to see his wife and grandchildren again.
Zderad suffers from a degenerative eye disease called retinitis pigmentosa. It slowly took his sight away by deteriorating the part of the retina that transforms light into vision.
